- extensions for student learning
- assessment ideas
In each TouchTimes(TT) task, students open one of the TT worlds, Grasplify or Zaplify, and “play” by creating and manipulating mathematical objects and symbols with their fingertips. The questions integrated in the TT tasks help students make sense of what is happening on the screen while moving back and forth between symbolic/numeric representations of multiplication and visual, haptic and tactile ones. Children work on these tasks in groups (both small and large) to co-ordinate their actions on the screen, verbalise their strategies to each other and reflect on what they and their partner are doing. Memorization of facts is not the goal of TT tasks. Since TT displays the product that results from any multiplicative expression, learners focus more on how, using their hands, to co-ordinate and combine multiplicative factors into given multiplicative products.
